Healthgrades, which had already named St. Jude one of America’s 250 Best Hospitals, in June bestowed the hospital the 2020 Outstanding Patient Experience Award. The award recognizes the medical center for being among the top 10 percent of hospitals nationwide for patient experience.
The leading resource connecting consumers, physicians and health systems, Healthgrades evaluated 3,346 hospitals that submitted at least 100 patient experience surveys to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Patients who were admitted here from April 2018 through March 2019 answered survey questions about everything from cleanliness and noise levels in patient rooms to physician and nurse communication. They were also asked whether they would recommend St. Jude to friends or family.
Of the 3,346 hospitals evaluated, only 424 (including St. Jude) outperformed their peers to achieve the distinction. It's an honor everyone at St. Jude can share because, as Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Healthgrades, put it: “The 2020 Outstanding Patient Experience Award recognizes the hospitals that are committed to improving the patient experience throughout the entire organization.”
In July, Modern Healthcare revealed that St. Jude is among the Best Places to Work in Healthcare in 2020, which places the medical center in elite company:
• St. Jude and Mission are the only Orange County hospitals on Modern Healthcare's annual list.
• St. Jude, Mission and Providence Holy Cross are the only California hospitals represented.
• St. Jude is among just 45 hospitals nationwide named.
A total of 150 hospitals, healthcare organizations and support businesses made the list, which will be revealed in ranked order in conjunction with the weekly magazine's virtual Workplace of the Future conference on Oct. 8.
