Did you know St. Jude has a Clinical Ethics Assistance Committee? The committee is here to help physicians and staff with the often difficult decisions that come up in caring for patients. Frequent issues you may encounter include issues involving informed consent, assessing the capacity of patients to make health care decisions, end of life issues such as providing DNAR orders, nutrition and hydration, and patients or surrogates insisting on futile care.
The committee is chaired by David Rhodes, M.D. and has other physician members such as Dr. Tim Greco and Dr. James Hardeman, as well as others. Members from nursing and administration, pastoral care and mission integration are also on the committee. To request an ethics consult, simply place an order for one, or call Janet Magnani, R.N., via Perfect Serve or at 714-992-3000 x3464. We are happy to help!
